2009: Green Trends & Leadership

As I read through my RSS feeds, one blurb that stood out to me among the many new year/clean slate/trend projections for 2009 was Jetson Green’s prediction: Change Leadership Will Thrive. They write:

“While everyone else is getting conservative and worried and immobile, change leaderswill use available tools, find the important opportunities, and build necessary businesses.”

As one of their Seven Green Trends to Watch in 2009, this trend particularly struck me for two reasons. First, it is not directly predicting a green outcome for the year (which is somewhat refreshing), but rather targets the foundational need for entrepreneurial leadership.

The second reason that this trend struck me was because I see these characteristics in my company, Sustainability Roundtable Inc., which has successfully launched its first Roundtable — the Sustainable Offices Roundtable — amidst economic realities that are, to be understated, not amenable to the growth we have experienced.

Not only is our founder an innovative leader, our Charter Members are exhibiting their leadership as established members of the commercial real estate industry by seeking innovative practices that will drive sustainability in their office portfolios.

Undoubtedly 2009 will be a challenging year as we all understand, but opportunities abound for those willing to be innovative leaders.
