Lighting Technologies for Real Estate Sustainability
As discussed during the SBER Q2 Executive Symposium, a growing number of SBER Member Executives are focusing on creating healthier and more sustainable workplaces.
Executives recognize that more efficient lighting technology offers a timely opportunity to reduce energy costs and improve environmental performance, particularly with new LED and lighting control technologies. Thanks to lighting systems that integrate with advanced analytics and control technologies, leaders can leverage these technologies to improve energy management throughout their real estate portfolio.
SR Inc is pleased to have recently released a new SBER-ELC Member Briefing: Lighting Technologies for Real Estate Sustainability. This briefing builds upon past SBER research on lighting, energy management, and strategies to manage and finance portfolio-wide energy performance improvements. The briefing reviews existing trends in the lighting and lighting controls markets and discusses strategies that executives leverage to promote consistent and high-performing lighting standards throughout their RE portfolio.
Key Issues Highlighted at the Executive Discussion:
- Leaders struggle to keep momentum going after an initial energy reduction goal is met.
- LEDs have hidden maintenance costs from cleaning and other concerns.
- Costs and payback vary by lighting type and location (parking lots, offices, labs, lobbies, etc).
- Companies should engage and educate internal and external stakeholders to build awareness around lighting technology.
