Yesterday Obama announced that he had signed a presidential memorandum (read it here) directing the Department of Energy to move forward on increasing the energy efficiency of several types of products. Most products that he urged the DOE to have improved energy efficiency standards for are household items. However, also included in this directive are commercial air conditioning equipment and commercial boilers.
The DOE has been directed to have final rules in place for several products August of this year and to move up the deadline of other rules. Whether or not the deadlines are achieved, higher energy efficiency standards for appliances including commercial products are one step closer to the reality that we have been expecting.
