I just finished listening to the report findings of the CDP6 which were presented at the CDP Global Forum this morning in New York City. At the event, Mr. Dennis M. Nally of PwC reported the findings of the Carbon Disclosure Project’s survey of both the Global 500 and the S&P 500 which both had a higher response rate than the previous year. Check out the CDP website at www.cdproject.net.
I would like to highlight one trend from each group of respondents that I believe to be significant trends in the market:
Global 500
Companies are becoming more attuned to the quality of the information that they report. This year, 59% of Global 500 respondents sought & received external verification of their disclosure of non-financial information (alternatives to the terminology “non-financial information” is currently being discussed in the field).
Standard & Poor’s 500
Of the S&P 500 respondents, more companies are disclosing their carbon emissions. This year’s survey indicated that 73% of companies are disclosing their carbon emissions. This is up 8 percentage points from the previous year’s 65%.
