A Message from SR Inc's Managing Director
As a new administration brings a flurry of executive orders, SR Inc is guiding Member-Clients through a dynamic landscape, helping them stay on course with their reporting and decarbonization goals.
We recently hosted our SBER Charter Nomination session to spark Member-Client discussion on where this year’s shared-cost, best-practice executive guidance and tools will focus. Thank you to everyone who registered, both for the nomination and for interviews with our Associates. Your feedback on potential topics is invaluable as we tailor the year’s research agenda to Member-Client needs. We look forward to incorporating your requests and to seeing you on February 20 as we ratify the research charter.
In this Quarterly Newsletter, you'll find Member-Client spotlights, new SR Inc teammate introductions, Net Zero Consortium for Buyers news, upcoming event announcements, and more. Follow our LinkedIn page for more SR Inc updates.

From the Service Leader
Happiness in an Emergency
As we in the Northern Hemisphere head into the heart of our winter, I think it is helpful to examine the history of two words: “emergency” and “happiness.” My goal in exploring these two words is to provide Sustainability Professionals (yes, I think it is time for proper noun capitalization of those in our field) with a powerful new way to understand both the atmospheric “emergency” driving human-caused climate breakdown and the possibility of deep “happiness” in a time of always mounting and more urgent ecological crisis.

Leadership in Action
Commonwealth Climate Coalition Leads Massachusetts Energy Data Preservation Efforts Amid Federal Transition Risks
In response to concerns about potential data loss during the Trump administration, the Climate Change Coalition (CCC), in collaboration with the Massachusetts Office of Energy Transformation and Sustainability Roundtable Inc. (SR Inc.), undertook a comprehensive effort to safeguard key energy-related datasets. The initiative focused on identifying, prioritizing, and preserving at-risk data to ensure long-term access.
Highlights of the project included dataset identification, prioritization, and repository matching. 322 initial dataset requests were normalized and deduplicated, resulting in 295 unique datasets. These datasets were categorized by risk level, with 77 high-priority datasets flagged as most at risk. The project involved collaboration with seven partner repositories, including Harvard Dataverse, Zenodo, and Data Refuge. This collaboration successfully facilitated direct preservation of the identified datasets.

Net Zero Consortium for Buyers (NZCB) Updates
Synopsys Secures 90 MW of Solar Energy through NZCB
Synopsys has purchased 90 MW of solar energy from the Millers Branch Solar Facility in Haskell County, Texas, through SR Inc’s NZCB. This virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) supports Synopsys’ Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-approved goal of reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2032. The Millers Branch project, set to begin operations in late 2026, will add new renewable capacity to the ERCOT grid, addressing rising energy demands driven by large-scale computing. This procurement builds on Synopsys’ previous 15 MW wind energy purchase and highlights its ongoing commitment to decarbonization through renewable energy investments. Read the full press release here.
City of Cambridge Announces Largest-Ever VPPA by a U.S. City
The City of Cambridge, in collaboration with SR Inc, has executed the largest VPPA ever signed by a U.S. city. This agreement will add significant renewable energy capacity to the grid, supporting Cambridge’s climate action goals and advancing its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions. Facilitated through SR Inc’s Net Zero Consortium for Buyers, the VPPA reflects a growing trend of municipalities leveraging innovative procurement models to drive large-scale renewable energy development and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. NZCB Achieves 1 GW of New Renewable Energy Development and Announces 10 GW Goal
SR Inc’s NZCB has reached its milestone of enabling 1 gigawatt (GW) of new renewable energy development through its innovative VPPA 2.0 framework. This achievement, driven by aggregated procurements across North America and Europe, includes projects such as Mesquite Star Wind, Liberty Solar, and Serbal Solar. Together, these efforts have mobilized over $1.5 billion in climate finance to support grid resilience and decarbonization.
Building on this success, the NZCB has set a bold new target: facilitating 10 GW of renewable energy development through Advance Market Commitments (AMCs) by 2030. This goal aligns with the global call to triple renewable energy capacity by the decade's end, as emphasized during COP28. The NZCB is already organizing high-credit buyers for its “Next Gigawatt” of procurements, aiming to achieve significant progress by the Summit for Sustainable Business IX in March 2026. Through its VPPA 2.0 model, SR Inc continues to enable scalable, risk-managed transactions that democratize access to utility-scale clean energy solutions. Read the full press release here.
